Fish Meal Plant The annual world fishmeal
production remains around 6,000,000 tons. Demand for fishmeal is
increasing every year and continue to rise inevitably. But production
is not bound to increase proportionately since the world fish catch is
started dropping. The present fishmeal prices are about US$840.00 per
ton and forecasted to raise about $80 ¼Per ton every year.
Arabian coast of Republic of Yemen is
rich in pelagic fish resources such as sardines and anchovies.
Fisheries Corporation has recorded 120,000 tons of sardines and
anchovy landing from Hadramout and Al-Malira coast alone (1997). There
is virtually no local market for the fresh sardines and entire catch
is beach dries and sold as manure. Accepting the governing local trend
of feeble demand for the same, local fishing efforts have also
diminished accordingly. There are no modern fishing gears operating
for operating for this fish.
The present selling prices of fresh
sardine at the landing center is only 0.0343US$ per kg.
In addition to sardines, it is
estimated that about 20 tons of fish offal (heads, bones, viscera etc)
is generated every day from fish markets, fish processing plant, tuna
canning considering the global fish meal demand and the available
fishery resources at low cost plants and tuna smoking units.
In the Republic of Yemen, it is highly
recommended and proposed to establish a modest Oil Fish Meal Plant of
20 tons fish meal output per day. Low lab cost is an added ADVANTAGE
IN YEMEN.
The fishmeal plant of this capacity
requires about 100 tons of raw materials per day. Additional
infrastructures such as fishing boats, modern encircling nets,
transport vehicles also are prime requirements for the success.
It is estimated that the total
investment for establishing the entire facility will be about
3,000,000 US dollars.
Thus, the active generation of raw
material supply is posed as the prime feature for the fishmeal plant
in Yemen carrying every factor for success.
